Budget to be allocated for 7th National Games: Sports Minister
Jul 30, 2014-
Minister for Youth and Sports Purushottam Poudel has said the budget for the Seventh National Games would be allocated by the Ministry of Finance.
The Sports Minister said some technical errors were made by the ministry while earmarking the budget for the Fiscal Year 2014/15 for the Games and expressed the commitment to get the budget allocated from the Finance Ministry to the Eastern Region Sports Development Committee for organizing the National Games.
The Eastern Region Sports Development Committee today submitted a memorandum to Minister Poudel drawing his attention that budget had not been allocated for the Seventh National Games in the government's policy and programme document for fiscal year 2014/15.
Committee president Kiran Rai urged the government to take the matter seriously as the National Games was not only that of the eastern region but an issue to do with the national sports.
He also said the government owes an explanation to the Nepali sports fraternity and the people of the eastern region why the budget was not allocated for such an important national event.
The 100th Board meeting of the National Sports Council on February 8, 2014 had decided to organize the Seventh National Games in the eastern region in Mid-February to mid-March 2015.
