Prostitution racket remanded in judicial custody
Sunsari District Court has remanded seven individuals, accused of running a prostitution ring, in judicial custody. They were found running the 'flesh trade' in a hotel based in Itahari.Ekantipur Report
A single bench of Justice Sharada Prasad Koirala on Wednesday ordered to send the offenders, Radha Tamang Maharjan, Radha Acharya Pradhan, Gyan Maya Rai alias 'Gyanu Rai', Sapana Shakya Shrestha, Sabitri Bhandari alias 'Saru' and Manoj Chaudhari, behind bars.
The Itahari police arrested them on and filed charges under Human Trafficking and Transportation (Control) Act. The police have claimed that the racket operating since a decade may have amassed property worth more than Rs 50 million. The police in their report have stated that people running tea shops some 10 years ago now possess properties worth Rs 50 million.
Likewise, the police are preparing to press money laundering charges against them.
A huge number of people who reached the court during the hearing shouted slogans demanding strict action against those defaming Itahari as a 'sex trade hub'.
