Scores affected by monsoon floods
Floods and landslides triggered by monsoon rainfall have wreaked havoc in various parts of NepalOur correspondent from Chitwan reported that Dil Bahadur Chepang, 45, of Piple-9, died after being swept away by a flooded Martal stream on Tuesday. Chepang’s body was recovered at Bhandara-2, said police.
In Rasuwa, Tek Bahadur Tamang, 58, of Ramche-9, was swept away while crossing the rain-swollen Ramche stream. The incident occurred while the victim was returning home from a nearby forest.
In Jajarkot, a landslide caused by heavy rainfall swept away a house belonging to Prem Sarki at Dheme VDC-8 on Tuesday night. Local resident Ratna Kumar Gharti said food grains, clothes, utensils and other valuables stored in the house were also taken away by the floods. There was, however, no human casualty reported as households fled.
In a similar incident at Fungling, the district headquarters of Taplejung, a house was damaged by landslide on Tuesday evening.
A local who witnessed the incident said that the house members managed to flee on time with the help of a passerby informing them of the landslide.
