Chinese PLA anniv marked
The 87th anniversary of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) was observed in Kathmandu on Thursday.Senior Nepal Army officials, members of the diplomatic corps, senior Nepal government officials, and defence attachés representing various countries were present in a ceremony organised to mark the day.
Addressing the function, senior Colonel at Chinese Embassy Cheng Xizhong read out a statement, highlighting the role of PLA. He said PLA made an indelible historical contribution to the China’s national independence and global peace. Cheng further said that both the PLA and the Nepali armed forces are great contributors to regional stability and world peace, and the exchanges between the Chinese PLA and the Nepal Army (NA) have helped the two countries maintain a good-neighbourly relationship of mutual trust and understanding.
In July 2013, General Gaurav SJB Rana completed his first visit to China as the Chief of the Army Staff, Cheng said, adding that during the visit, important
talks were held between General Rana and Air Chief Marshall Xu Qiliang, vice Chairman of the Chinese Central Military Commission, and General Fang Fenghui, chief of General Staff of the Chinese PLA.
In February 2014, Lieutenant General Wang Guanzhong, deputy chief of General Staff of the Chinese PLA, paid a successful and fruitful visit to Nepal, further deepening the traditional friendly relationship between the two armed forces, he said.
