Demand to make membership distribution transparent
Eleven different sports bodies jointly demanded maintaining transparency while distributing the association membership, citing the Nepal Olympic Committee denied membership to them. The 11 different associations making this demand are the Nepal Rugby Association, Nepal Rafting and Canoeing Association, Nepal Ice Hockey Association, Nepal Automobile Sports Association, Nepal Netball Association, Nepal Mountaineers and Rock Climbers Association, among others.
Organising a joint press conference here today, they demanded membership of the Nepal Olympic Committee.
The associations said that they have collectively put forth their demands after internationally-recognized committee, the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC), headed by Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan did not provide membership to them even if they have been conducting various sports activities since long and are registered at the National Sports Council (NSC).
Former Vice-Chairman of NSC and Chairman of the Modern Pentathlon Association, Pitamber Timsina, said that they have decided to move ahead together after they failed to get membership when they demanded membership.
He said that they would submit a joint memorandum to both Pradhan and Rukma Shamsher Rana, who leads another NOC on Friday, warning of agitation if their demand was not addressed within 15 days.
The eleven associations have already formed a committee under the coordination of Timsina for charting out a protest programme.
