Nepalgunj in danger of inundation
Most of the areas in Nepalgunj municipality have been inundated following incessant rainfall since Wednesday eveningEkantipur Report
The rainfall which started yesterday evening has not yet subsided. Lack of appropriate management of sewerage in the municipality has increased the risk of inundation even during small rainfall.
Similarly, the construction of four-lane road had damaged the existing old sewerage facilities and new ones have not yet been constructed, thereby increasing the risk of drowning, locals said.
Shops, residential areas and some private boarding schools have been inundated following the continuous downpour.
The water level in Rapti River has increased due to the incessant rainfall, thereby risking the settlement areas along the river bank. The locals of Holiya are in danger after Rapti River swept away the embankments in the area.
The Laxmanpur Barrage and Kalkalwa embankment, constructed unilaterally by India, has obstructed the natural flow of river and rivulets, thereby risking half-a-dozen of VDCs including Holiya.
