Landslide victims in peril for no timely rescue
The situation of the victims of rain-triggered landslide occurred in Jajarkot on Wednesday has become more alarming in absence of timely rescue operations.Among the victims critically injured are 13-year-old Arati and 10-year-old Kamala – daughters of jayalal Bohora of Sakla-3, Bandala, Karne Nepali, 26, Sudha Nepali, 30, Lale Nepali, 12, of Ramidanda-9, Dhaulakot and Sandesh Basnet, 14, of Sakla-5, said Dilli Rawal, a local.
The rescue efforts have not yet been effective due to bad weather and indifference on part of concerned stakeholders. The landslide-ravaged areas – Ramidanda and Sakla VDC – are on two-day walking distance from headquarters Khalanga.
At least four people have so far lost their lives and 10 were injured in the natural calamity in the district. Though six among the injured were in critical condition, the victims could not get respite for inability to arrange for chpper from the Ministry of Home.
No relief has been distributed to the landslide victims till Friday though a meeting of the District Disaster Relief Committee on Thursday immediately urged the Home Ministry to provide relief assistance to the injured, said Chandra Bahadur Khadka, a local of Ramidanda-8.
On the one hand, the injured are reeling under helpless situation while on the other the landslide-displaced are also facing tough time to get safer places, he added.
Local people of 20 households displaced by the landslide now are taking shelter on the premises of Kalika Secondary School, Ramidanda.
Jajarkot has seen disruption of vehicular movement and phone service due to landslide that took place after incessant rainfall occurring since Thursday night.
