CPDCC begins discussions about constitutional court
The Constitutional-Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee of the Constituent Assembly began discussions whether to establish the constitutional court permanently.The issue relating to the establishment of constitutional court was agreed by the dispute resolution committee formed under the then Judicial Committee.
In the Committee meeting today, CA members (committee members) suggested for carrying out amendments to the report presented by sub-committee about works, duties and rights of the Constitutional Court, committee secretary Mukunda Sharma said.
Various issues including jurisdictions of Supreme Court and Constitutional Court, number of judges there, their tenure and qualification, appointment and removal process and mechanism against corruption and abuse of authority were discussed at the meeting.
The meeting also discussed about the merits and demerits of the report and exchanged views about how to make judiciary transparent and accountable to the people. Committee president Dr Baburam Bhattarai chaired the meeting which was concluded with an agreement of meeting again to hold further discussions on the matters.
The sub-committee presented its report to the Committee on August 15 which suggested for permanency of Constitutional Court keeping in mind possibility of disputes amongst provinces in the future. RSS
