School headmaster Badi Narayan Sah has reportedly embezzled Rs 500,000 granted to the school as an acknowledgment for achieving highest SLC pass percentage last year, and miscellaneous funds amounting to Rs 166,000 from the school’s bank account. Sah is said to be walking free after concerned authorities failed to take action against him.
According to school accountant Karna Bahadur Adhikari, Sah had transferred the amount to his personal a/c in March. Adhikari also accused Sah of not conducting a financial audit for the past two years.
Sources say that Sah has also been exploiting students by charging additional fees at his discretion under various pretexts while providing the SLC certificate. Sah asked for Rs 3,200 per student while handing out the certificate. “Although the general registration fee per student is Rs 300, Sah has been asking for Rs 500,” claimed one of the guardians, Prem Bahadur Khatri. Khatri alleged that Sah charged the additional amount to 122 students.
Complaints have also been made on Sah’s attendence at work. He is criticise for failing to show up at work for weeks on end but, somehow, manages to register his entry in school everyday. And more, his wife, also a school teacher, does the same. According to Khatri, Sah had been able to pull it off by influencing members of the school management committee. But repeated complaints filed against Sah have gone in vain. Khatri claimed of filing a complaint against Sah demanding prompt return of the embezzled funds and proper management of regular classes at the District Education Office, on which the DEO is yet to take action on. Khatri claimed that Sah had been walking scott-free despite the irregularities due to the inaction of the DEO and negligence of supervisors.
