House obstructed for fifth day
he opposition parties obstructed the Parliament for the fifth consecutive day on Thursday demanding implementation of past agreements. The main opposition, UCPN(Maoist), along with the Madhes-based parties have been pressing for the implementation of the four point deal signed on 2 December 2013, including the formation of High-level Political Committee and completion of the remaining task of the peace process.
Prime Minister Sushil Koirala was due to address the Parliament in which he was expected to speak about the opposition’s demands. But the parliamentarians from the opposition parties obstructed the session soon after Speaker Subas Nembang convened the House proceeding.
Sarvendra Shukla, the Parliamentary Party leader of Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party, said they were compelled to hinder the House proceeding as the ruling parties have shown no sign of implementing the past agreement.
“The government has been turning a deaf ear to us. This shows that it is not serious about our demands, nor about resuming Parliament,” said Shukla.
