Sixteen-member Wushu team gear up for Asian Games campaign
A 16- member wushu team on Wednesday left for Incheon, South Korea, to participate in the 17th Asian Games.In all, 13 wushu players will represent Nepal in the regional sports meet. Wushu events has been scheduled for September 20-24. Dhanbir Maharjan (75kg), Sombir Tamang (65kg), Mangal Prasad Tharu (60), Amar Maharjan (53kg), Jharana Gurung (52kg) and Chahana Bomjam Lama (60kg) will vie in Sansou while Ang Babu Lama, Nirajan Ale Magar, Sunny Shrestha, Rinji Sherpa, Susmita Tamang, Suma Oshin Rai and Sabita Raut will compete in Thaulo events.
Ram Gopal Maharjan is the Sansau coach and Panchaman Maharjan the thaulo coach. Vice President of Nepal Wushu Association (NWA) Chandra Man Tamang also accompanied the team as team manager. Member Secretary of Nepal Sports Council (NSC) Yubaraj Lama bade farewell to the team. Of the 25 sports discipline that Nepal will participate in the Asiad, Wushu boosts the highest number of players followed by Taekwondo which has 12 players.
NWA President Deepak Sarkar and Vice Presidents Rajeev Maharjana and Biku Lama also departed for South Korea on Wednesday to attend the Asian Wushu Association congress slated for September 19. Meanwhile, Member Secretary Lama and treasurer Indra Bahadur Thing bade farewell to a 13-member
NSC team which will work under different capacity during the Asian Games.
