Adhikari couple's health condition 'critical': Doctors
The health condition of Nanda Prasad Adhikari, who has been staging fast-unto-death at Bir Hospital for the past 327 days, has deteriorated.Dr Shyam Pandit, director of Bir Hospital said they have started administering additional supplements of the protein drip in order to improve the deteriorating health of Nanda Prasad and his wife Ganga Maya. He said the bodies of Adhikari couple have become frail and they are in critical condition.
Earlier, the Bir Hospital had stopped administering intravenous nutrition supplement to Nanda Prasad and his wife Ganga Maya of Gorkha following delay by the Health Ministry in releasing the money meant for treating the Adhikari couple.
The government had decided to bear all the treatment cost of Adhikari couple after they resumed their fast-unto-death at the hospital demanding action against the murderers of their son. Nineteen-year-old Krishna Adhikari of Fujel in Gorkha was abducted from Chitwan in June 2004 by the then Maoist rebels and was subsequently killed.
A three member committee led by Shushil Kumar Shrestha, chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Social Justice and Human Rights met the Adhikari couple on Thursday and urged them to end their fast-unto-death. However, the couple could not respond due to their weak health condition.
