Govt forms new commission to resolve strike at BPKIHS
The Ministry of Health and Population has set up a new commission to address the strike that is going on for 11 days at the BP Koirala Institute of Health and Sciences.Minister for Health and Population, Khagaraj Adhikari, today stated that the ministry has formed a new commission comprising the under-secretary of the Finance Ministry, Thaan Prasad Pangeni, under-secretary of the Health Ministry Kedar Bahadur Adhikari, Dr. Guna Raj Karki and Dr. Bhagwan Koirala.
Similarly, Vice-Chancellor of the Institute Prof Dr Balbhadra Prasad Das, Registrar Tul Bahadur Shrestha and Deputy Registrar Amit Shreevastav have been nominated as members in the commission.
Expressing the government's concern over the adverse impact of the strike on the health institute's regular activities, Minister Adhikari, who is also the pro-chancellor of the Institute, said that the government made the latest move.
Earlier, the ministry had formed a High Level Salary Scale Commission in coordination with the former vice-chancellor of the Institute, Dr Shekhar Koirala in view with addressing the strike.
However, Sujendra Tamang, the president of the Employees Welfare Forum of the Institute said that they will continue with the strike in other forms considering the nearing festivals if the newly formed commission still fails to meet their demands.
The regular activities in the institute have been adversely affected due to the strike of the Institute's staffers who have been demanding increment in the salary and other facilities, it is learnt.
