Resume House by Monday: Nembang
Speaker Subas Chandra Nembang has directed the ruling and opposition parties to end the obstruction of the House proceedings at any cost by Monday.Ekantipur Report
Expressing his displeasure over the failure of the leaders’ repeated assurance to resume House, stalled since August 29, speaker Nembang directed the ruling and opposition parties, for the second time, to end the ongoing obstruction of the parliament.
The opposition parties including the UCPN (Maoist) have been obstructing the parliament demanding the implementation of the four-point agreement which includes the formation of a High-Level Political Committee (HLPC).
“The obstruction hasn’t ended even if you all have said that the House will commence from this day or that day. This isn’t a pleasant situation,” said Nembang, “What will the people say if the assurances you made haven’t been implemented? I urge the ruling, opposition parties and the government to end the obstruction by Monday.”
Earlier, Nembang had urged the leaders to resolve the House obstruction before Prime Minister Sushil Koirala left for the United States to attend the United Nations General Assembly.
Stating that the House is informed only after there is difficulty in implementation of the agreements amongst the parties, Chairman Nembang said that prolonged House obstruction will put the nation in crisis.
“The parliament had no knowledge of the four-point agreement among the parties and the subsequent problem in its implementation,” he said, “The House came to know about it only after the obstruction over the implementation of the agreement.”
Speaker Nembang has been urging the concerned bodies to inform matters of public importance to the House.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat claimed that the government has not signed the four-point agreement, adding that the House should not be obstructed citing the same.
