All-party meet to seek consensus
An all-party meeting has been called for 4 pm on Monday in a bid to seek consensus on the disputed issues of new constitution and to end the ongoing obstruction in the Legislature-ParliamentEkantipur Report
A meeting between Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and UCPN (Maoist) this morning held discussions on these two agendas but ended inconclusively.
A three-party meeting has been called again at 3 pm and later on 4 pm the all-party meeting will be conducted.
NC Vice-Chairman Ram Chandra Poudel said that a serious discussion has been held between the three parties. “We have reached close to consensus on the constitution drafting as well as resuming the House. Big three parties are trying to find a common ground before holding an all-party meet,” he said.
The extended deadline provided to the CA’s Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee (PDCC) is expiring on Tuesday. PDCC Chairman Baburam Bhattarai said the all-party meeting has been convened to decide whether to settle the contentious issues through consensus or put to vote. However, Bhattarai said the efforts to forge consensus is not likely to bear fruit.
“Today’s attempt to forge consensus on constitution drafting is not heading in the positive direction,” Bhattarai tweeted. “Let the all-party meet slated for 4 pm agree either on the issues or the process.”
