The local people of 29 north-eastern VDCs of Gorkha and nine north-western VDCs of Dhading have benefited with the operation of Benighat Bridge that connected the area with the Prithvi Highway.
The 150 metres long bridge had been inaugurated by Minister for Physical Planning and Transport Bimalendra Nidhi amid a function on September 30. Lawmakers, leaders of various political parties representing the districts took part in the inauguration function.
The bridge has been constructed keeping in view the expanding roadway to Larkepass at the Nepal-Tibet border through Aarughat. Secretary Tulasi Prasad Sitaula at the Ministry of Physical Planning and Transport said that the 54-km Benighat-Aarughat road stretch is now linked with the national highway. Nepal-China border is at a distance of about 27 km from Arughat.
It is believed that the construction of the bridge will help develop trade, commerce, and tourism in the northern part of Gorkha and Dhading districts.
“The construction of the bridge will ease the construction of the proposed Budhigandaki hydropower as well,” said CPN-UML lawmaker Rajendra Prasad Pandey.
