Aamir Khan arrives in Kathmandu
Bollywood actor Aamir Khan arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday to participate in a Unicef-initiated nutrition programme in west Nepal.Through his off-beat movies and TV talk show, Khan has found a unique voice, championing for a wide range of social issues, such as female foeticides, child sexual abuse, honour killings, insensitivity towards the physically disabled, alcoholism, and problems faced by senior citizens.
Khan will visit Kapilvastu district on Wednesday where he will attend a nutrition programme initiated by a local women’s group.
Khan’s three-day visit has been kept a low-key affair due to possible security hassles given the superstar’s wide fan following in Nepal.
He landed with his personal security personnel at Tribhuvan International Airport on Tuesday afternoon in a Jet Airways flight from Mumbai. A dozen Nepal police personnel have been deployed for his security at Dwarika’s Hotel where he is staying at a high-end suite. Nine additional rooms have been booked for 18 other guests and UN officials accompanying him.
According to the District Police Office, Kapilvastu, Khan will attend a programme organised by Pakadi Health Post where health officials and women volunteers will make a presentation on local nutrition status.
According to the itinerary, he flies to Bhairahawa on a chartered flight in the morning and travels by road to Pakadi after a stopover in Lumbini.
Before wrapping up his visit, Unicef on Thursday will organise a press conference where Khan shares his Nepal experience.
