Ethnicity-based federalism unimaginable: Oli
CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said ethnicity-based federalism in the country is unimaginable.Ekantipur Report
Addressing a meeting of the UML parliamentary party (PP) at New Baneshwor in the Capital on Thursday, leader Oli said, "Nepal is rich in ethnic diversity. Many ethnic communities live in every village here and it is not possible to allocate the state in the name of every ethnic group."
He further said no changes would be made in a new constitution regarding Nepal, the Nepali state, the national flag, national language and nationality. The country has a mixed society characterised by ethnical, linguistic and cultural diversities, he said, underlining the need of federating the country keeping in mind the interests of all castes, communities, languages and culture existing here.
Similarly, party senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal stressed the need of promulgating a new constitution within January 22 on the basis of consensus. The UML should play a role in creating atmosphere favourbale for holding the local poll, he added.
Vice-chairman Bamdev Gautam, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, said that the constitution could be drafted on slated time if there would be coordination between the party and the ministers in the incumbent government.
The meeting further decided to invite the ministers in the party meeting for responding to the problems and questions of the people and lawmakers on every Monday to Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Chairman Oli distributed the logo of the national flag to the lawmakers from the party, urging them to compulsory wear it.
