Electronics dealers thrilled as sales top expectations
Most dealers of electronic appliances have reported higher than expected sales during the Dashain shopping bonanza due to festival schemes and heavy spending on advertising.LED televisions were the highest selling products followed by refrigerators and home theatres during the festival buying season.
Dealers of global brands like Samsung, LG, Sony and Phillips said they witnessed 10-15 percent higher growth than projected.
Purushottam Bhandari, sales head at CG Electronics, the authorised distributor of LG in Nepal, said that sales of LED televisions and refrigerators exceeded their expectations. “We had targeted 40 percent growth for Dashain, but we witnessed 10 percent more sales,” he added.
Ganesh Raj Pandey, sales manager of Him Electronics, the authorised distributor of Samsung Electronics in Nepal, said their sales jumped 25 percent over last year.
“We are expecting similar growth during the upcoming Tihar festival too,” he said.
Similarly, Binil Bajracharya, general manager of Nepa Hima Trade Links, the authorized distributor of Sony in Nepal, said that new launches and festive schemes contributed to the growth in sales.
Philips reported the highest sales ever during the Dashain festival with a turnover of Rs 30 million at its showroom in Kathmandu. With Philips offering heavy clearance discounts on various electronic products including televisions, it received a huge response.
“The flow of customers was so great that they had to queue up outside the showroom to buy the products,” said Dinesh Ratna Bajracharya, head of the Philips division at Syakar Trading Company, the authorised distributor of Philips in Nepal. The company was giving discounts of up to 75 percent before Dashain. It is still offering a flat 25 percent discount on various products.
Expecting good sales till the Tihar festival, most companies are still continuing their schemes and freebies. Samsung’s festival scheme provides up to 23 percent cash-back on purchase of its various electronic items. The company offers money-back ranging from Rs 7,100 to Rs 314,990 on purchase of televisions.
Similarly, customers will get cash-back of Rs 2,700 to Rs 31,100 on purchase of refrigerators.
The company offers Rs 3,600 to Rs 7,800 cash-back on washing machines, Rs 1,700 to Rs 6,500 on microwave ovens and Rs 1,310 to Rs 2,410 on vacuum cleaners depending on the model.
LG’s authorised distributor CG Electronics has been continuing its LG RED Festive Offers under which customers get a free LG home theatre DH-4130S on purchase of a 42-inch or above 3D TV. Similarly, customers will get a free Logitech wireless keyboard with a touch pad on purchase of 32-inch or above smart TV.
The company offers a 500 GB external hard disk on purchase of 39- or 42-inch TVs. Likewise, the company offers various gifts like microwave oven, dinner set, iron and cooking kit, among others, on purchase of its wide range of products.
Nepa Hima Trade Link, the authorised distributor of Sony televisions in Nepal, recently introduced nine new models of televisions including three 4K, four Full-HD Internet TVs and two new R series televisions.
Likewise, Hisense recently introduced a promotional offer on its televisions and washing machines.
The scheme assures gifts like vacuum cleaner, HDMI player, pen drive and washing powder. The company has targeted a growth of 30 percent during the festive season.
