Suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes and paralysis for long, Thapa breathed his last at his residence in Swayambhu, Kathmandu, this morning.
Singer of popular folk songs including Hariyo Danda Mathi, Nepali le Maya Maaryo Barilai, Hamro Tenzing Sherpa Le, Thapa was given a title of ‘Janakavi Keshari’ by the then king Mahendra Shah in 2013 BS.
Thapa had received Madan Purashkar for Mangali Kusum. He was also awarded with Indrarajyalaxmi Purashkar by Nepal Rajakiya Pragya Pratisthan in 2025 BS.
He was born in Batule Chaur, Pokhara, of Kaski district on Shrawan 1, 1981 BS and started singing folk songs from an early age.
His body will be kept at Nepal Academy Hall in Kamaladi for final tributes.
