11 killed in Okhaldhunga jeep accident

Eleven persons have been killed and 12 others injured when a passenger jeep met with an accident at Andheri in Sidhicharan Municipality of Okhaldhunga district on Sunday.

The jeep was heading for the district headquarters from Nishankhe. Seven people were killed on the spot while four others died while being taken to the Okhaldhunga community hospital for treatment. Four amongst the injured are in critical condition.

The deceased have been identified as Madiram Bhattarai, Tej Bahadur Basnet, Drohini Bhattarai, Sarita Khadka, Tika Basnet, Cholendra Khatri, Man Kumar Rai and Ram Pyari Basnet. The identity of the other deceased is yet to be established.

The jeep fell some 200 meters down the road. The injured have been receiving treatment at local hospital, said Okhaldhunga Chief District Officer Ganesh Prasad Bhattarai.

2 killed in Palpa accident

In a seperate accident in Palpa, two people died when a truck and motorcycle collided at Dobhan-4 of Jhumsa in the distrct on Saturday night.

The accident occurred when a Palpa bound truck (Lu 1 Ka 730) collided with a motorcycle ( Lu 10 Pa 2048) comming from the opposite direction along the Siddhartha Highway.

The deceased have been identified as motorcycle rider Khem Gurung, 21, of Beldamar, Dobhan-2 and pillion rider Padam Shrestha, 18, of Pani Mill, Dobhan-4.

According to District Police Office, the motorcycle riders, who were critically injured in the accident, were rushed to Lumbini Zonal Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
