Oct 31, 2014-
Minister for Youth and Sports Purushottam Poudel has said that the government will focus its attention on acquiring One Day International (ODI) status for Nepali cricket team.
He said the government has been planning to organise friendly matches with Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Maldives in order to strengthen the status of Nepali cricket. The government is also preparing to hold an international level Twenty-20 tournament in Nepal, said Minister Poudel.
Minister Poudel informed that final preparations are being made to hold a friendly match with Bangladesh national team.
The minister further said that the government is striving to construct international level stadiums at Mulpani, Tribhuvan University and Pokhara. “India has pledged to construct one stadium. The government will send a proposal after finalising the land for the construction,” he said.
Minister Poudel pointed out the lack of management and leadership at Cricket Association Nepal (CAN) as the obstacle for the development of cricket.
“Now we have to organise one day or two day international matches,” he said, “The government is ready to facilitate the history making players in any way possible.”
