‘Dearth of funds’ delays autopsy
A body of a woman is lying at the morgue in the Chandrapur municipality-based hospital for the past four days after Dr Sachin Yadav reportedly refrained from conducting autopsyPolice said they are unable to identify the woman, who was found murdered at Laxmipur-2 on Wednesday. Though the woman is suspected to have been murdered after rape, police have not been able to establish the fact. Superintendent of Police Sanubabu Thapaliya, however, said they have deployed a special team to identify and search people involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, another body of man who died in a road accident has also been left to rot in the morgue.
Abhaya Thakur, a health assistant at the hospital, said the autopsy service was halted as the hospital lacked funds to pay workers who cut open the bodies. Thakur said the municipality should provide ample budget to avoid such situations.
Expressing ignorance about the problem, Padam Bahadur Karki, acting executive officer the municipality, said they will release funds if recommended by police.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Netra Mani Giri said they informed Chief District Officer Girdhari Subedi of the problem.
