Lumbini to get facelift for Saarc leaders’ visit
Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha, is receiving a makeover in view of the impending visit of the Indian Prime Minister and two other Saarc leaders.Lumbini Area Development Trust is beautifying Lumbini as Indian PM Narendra Modi along with the Bhutanese King and the Sri Lankan President expressed their willingness to visit the Buddhist holy shrine during their sojourn to Nepal for the Saarc Summit to be held in Kathmandu on 26 and 27 of this month.
Modi, along with two other leaders, will be visiting the Mayadevi temple, the temple named after Lord Buddha's mother, as well as the other sites within the Lord Buddha' birth place.
The three Saarc dignitaries will fly to Lumbini in a special chopper, informed Saroj Bhattarai, a senior engineer of the Trust.
Bhattarai further informed that the Trust is making every possible effort to give a facelift to Lumbini according to which places as four ponds that are in the 'Sacred Garden' area, temples as Mayadevi and the central canal are being cleaned, re-constructed, renovated and painted.
Though the Trust has proposed Rs. 10.5 million with the government for the purpose, it has already undertaken the 'Lumbini Beautifying' task with its own budget.
