Dahal visits Maoist war-era headquarters
UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has commemorated the war-era days here at Ramkot Dandagaun of Rolpa district on Tuesday.Ekantipur Report
Dahal, who established Maoists headquarters at Rana Bahadur Gharti Magar’s house in 2004, observed the bed room and kitchen where he slept and ate during the insurgency.
After observing the war-era bunker, Dahal repeated that the Maoist fighters used to hide them in those bunkers to save them from the attacks by state army.
“I have used sophisticated weapons from these bunkers,” Dahal recalled. “Those days are rolling like a film reel in my head.” Former Maoist combatants and government security personnel posed for snaps with Dahal.
Earlier in the day, Dahal visited the house of Maoist politburo member and former chief of People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Nanda Kishor Pun ‘Pasang’. Pun welcomed him by playing a traditional band of ‘Panche-Baja’ in the village. Dahal also attended a party organised by Pun in his honour.
The Maoists chairman had been living at Gharti’s house since 2004. He claimed to have left the house in 2006, February 13. A Nepal Army helicopter attacked Gharti’s house two days after Dahal left.
“I had given interview to media persons from this house on 2005, February 12,” said Dahal, adding. “We had issued a statement advocating peace process, multi-party competition, and end of tyrannical monarchy.”
Dahal made it clear that his visit to the Maoists headquarters of insurgency did not mean that there should be another war. “It should be understood as part of the process to end the peace process and draft the people-oriented constitution,” the Maoist chairman added.
Dahal spend around an hour at gharti’s house.
Pun said Dahal’s arrival to his village is a matter of pride for the residents of Rangsi. People of Rengsi will brief him about the development activities and their problems to Dahal today.
Dahal is on a weeklong visit to Rolpa with his wife Sita Dahal, General Seretary Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Secretary Barsha Man Pun and Nanda Kishor Pun, among other leaders.
Meanwhile, political parties back in Kathmandu have been condemning Dahal’s sudden visit to Rolpa at the critical juncture of constitution drafting as the deadline is approaching. His sudden visit has made the political talks regarding the constitution drafting uncertain.
