Limbuwan strike affects life in 9 districts
Normal life in the nine districts in the eastern Nepal has been hit hard due to a general strike called by Federal Limbuwan Party on Sunday, demanding an autonomous state.Pradeep Menyangbo
Vehicles stayed off the roads, markets, academic institutions, factories and industries, have been shut in the districts due to the strike.
The party has been demanding for an autonomous Sapta Koshi-Arun Limbuwan state, comprising nine districts of eastern region, according to historic background.
Likewise, the party has also demanded that the government implement the five-point agreement signed with them in March 2008.
According to the pact, nine eastern districts across the Arun River will be declared as Limbuwan autonomous state.
Meanwhile, the Dhankuta police have arrested the 10 cadres of the party including secretariat member Gentle Lawoti and district secretary Purna Khajum on the charge of trying to enforce the banda in the market.
