Indian PM Modi’s Janakpur, Lumbini visit cancelled
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Janakpur, Lumbini and Muktinath has been cancelled.Ekantipur Report
A source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also informed that the Indian PM’s visit to Lumbini and Muktinath have also been cancelled. Indian PM Modi was scheduled to visit the places during his visit to Nepal in connection with the 18th Saarc Summit due to be held in Kathmandu later this month.
Indian PM Modi was scheduled to receive civic reception in Janakpur. However, the major political parties were at odds regarding the possible place for Modi’s reception.
The prospect of Modi’s civic reception was also being debated in the political circle. The Indian PM has decided not to visit Janakpur amidst the controversy surrounding his visit.
Meanwhile, the locals in Janakpur staged demonstrations against Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management Bimalendra Nidhi following the cancellation of Modi’s Janakpur visit. Minister Nidhi was scheduled to welcome Indian PM Modi in Janakpur.
Issuing a press statement today, Minister Nidhi informed about the cancellation of the visit, ruing the fact that the scheduled visit could not go ahead despite preparations for the same.
