Tamang feted with cash reward
The Kathmandu Region No 1 wing of Nepal Democratic Sports Association on Monday felicitated the 17th Asian Games lone medallist karateka Bimala Tamang with cash rewards.Deputy Prime Minister & Local Development Minister Prakash Man Singh handed a cheque of Rs 5,00,000 to the 18-year old Tamang, who had bagged a bronze medal in the women’s karate individual kata after defeating Jyu Kang of South Korea in the Games that had concluded on October 4. Tamang took the award as a big motivation that has laden her with more responsibility to perform better in the future.
It was the second biggest cash reward for Tamang after the government honoured her with a cash reward of one million rupees on October 18.
Tamang had saved the blushes of a big Nepali contingent in the September 19 to October 4 Asian Games held in South Korea where Nepali athletes barely staged a fight in any discipline. The Nepali contingent had left for Korea with 204 athletes who participated in 25 different sports disciplines in the regional meet.
