Female Community Health Volunteers’ Day observed

The 11th Female Community Health Volunteers’ Day was celebrated across the country on Friday by organising various activities in districts while the main event was held in Kathmandu.  

The main event organised at the National Health Training Center was attended by government officials, representatives of donor agencies, health service providers, FCHVs from 20 districts and other stakeholders.

Addressing the function, Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Population Shanta Bahadur Shrestha said that FCHVs have a great role in making Nepal a healthy country. He lauded the contributions made by FCHVs across the country and expressed commitment to address the problems they have been facing.

Shrestha informed that the ministry has formed a committee to look into the possibility of addressing the demands raised by FCHVs. There are around 52,000 FCHVs in Nepal.

At the event, Deputy Representative of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Catherine Breen Kamkong said FCHVs are frontline heroes of women’s health across Nepal. She also praised their efforts to improve the health and wellbeing of Nepali people.

UNFPA will continue to engage with FCHVs in areas as such capacity building for demand generations activities in family planning, adolescent sexual and reproductive health, maternal health and other related areas in line with the National Health Policy, the UN official said.

On the occasion, 20 FCHVs from several districts were honored by the Family Health Division.
