OCE plans SLC results in two phases
The Office of the Controller of Examination (OCE) is preparing to publish the results of School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examination separately for the general and technical groups.Binod Ghimire
The students studying technical education will have to wait for a longer time to get their results compared to those under the general category. The first batch of students from the technical group are sitting for the SLC examination this year. As a pilot project, the Ministry of Education in 2012 introduced the technical education for students from 99 public schools across the country. Some 4,500 students are taking exams in five categories of vocational and technical education—agriculture, engineering, hotel and hospitality management, computer science and livestock farming.
Students studying technical subjects have 1,000 marks in total while it is 800 for non-technical groups. The students under the first category study a single subject of their choice worth 400 marks and they don’t need to study two optional subjects which is must for students from the general category.
According to Examination Controller Bishnu Bahadur Dware, the results of the general category will be published first. He said the OCE is preparing to publish results the technical category under the grading system. “These are two different forms of results. Therefore, it is not possible to publish results of both categories on the same day,” he said. Unlike in general system where results are measured in terms of percentage, the grading system will follow Grade Point Average (GPA) where obtained results are given in grades like A+, A, B and so on. The grading system is a pilot project and will gradually be expanded to the general category as well.
