Top leaders' meet in Baluwatar ends inconclusively
A meeting of three major political parties—Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and the UCPN (Maoist)—and the Madhes-centric parties took place at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar.Ekantipur Report
Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala, Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel, General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula, and Minister for Law Narhari Acharya represented the ruling party NC in the meeting while the CPN-UML was represented by its Chairman KP Oli, Vice-chairpersons Bidhya Bhandari and Bhim Rawal, and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal.
UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal, Vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha and senior leader Baburam Bhattarai took part in the meeting on behalf of the party.
Likewise, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Loktantrik Chairman Bijay Kumar Gachhadar, Tarai-Madhes Loktantrik Party Chairman Mahanta Thakur and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav represented the Madhes-centric parties at the meeting.
The constitution drafting process is in limbo as the major parties are still at odds over the key contentious issues of the constitution including state restructuring, forms of governance, electoral and judiciary system.
