Cold wave, snowfall and rain affect lives across country

SIRAHA
According to RSS, two persons have died of cold wave in Lahan in the district. The victims have been identified as Bauba Sada, 60, from Khushipur -8, and Ashadevi Mandal, 50, from Bidyanagar-2 of the district.
With the cold wave increasing here since the past week, general life has been badly affected. As a result, the patients of cold, pneumonia, fever and respiratory problems have thronged the hospitals.
Similarly, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum has informed that a 50-year-old Bhola Majhi of Lakshminiya-2 in Rautahat district has died of cold.
SOLUKHUMBU
A foot of snow has been piled at the Chaurikharka, Namche, Khumjung, among other VDCs of Khumbu region, locals said.
“The snowfall began from last night. People are unable to come out of their houses. The snowfall has piled up to one foot and is still continuing,” a local LP Sharma said on telephone. “The number of visitors is declining due to the snowfall and increasing cold.” The region is a popular tourist destination.
OKHALDHUNGA
According Okhaldhunga-based journalist Kumbharaj Rai, the mountainous districts have been hit hard by the snowfall. A light snowfall took place at Patle, Jantarkhani, Bhusinga, among other places in the district. Students are unable to go to their schools as well as vehicular transportation has been affected due to slippery rural roads resulted by light rainfall.
MUSTANG
Snowfall in the district has affected normal life with the temperature falling to minus 2 degree Celsius.
The chill weather has forced the public indoors while the government offices have gone virtually silent. Less number of hotels and shops at Mustang district headquarters Jomsom are open, said Kul Bahadur Thakali, a local of the area.
Snowfall is continuing in the upland areas of Mustang although snow has started melting in the other areas, District Police Office Mustang informed.
Snow has started melting in Jomsom, Kagbeni, Marfa among other lower areas, said Khim JC, Assistant Inspector.
MJF demands protection of Tarai residents
Meanwhile, Upendra Yadav-led Madhesi Janadhikar Forum- Nepal (MJF-N) has demanded that the necessary steps be taken to protect the residents of Tarai from the cold weather.
Yadav released a press statement today demanding warm clothes, fire-woods and medical treatment for those suffering of cold in Tarai.
He stated that the Dhanusha, Siraha, Saptari, Rautahat, Bara, Sarlahi, Mahottari, Parsa, Kapilvastu, Banke, Bardiya, among other places of Tarai have been hit hard by the cold waves and heavy fog.
