Valley road authority re-painting crosswalks
The road authority has started re-painting the traffic markings to make the road signs visible to drivers and pedestrians. The crosswalks that were painted just before the 18th Saarc Summit have faded away in just over a month.
The authorities plan to repaint the markings as well as add new ones for pedestrians’ convenience.
“We are on the process of re-marking most of the major roads which have been recently constructed” said KVRIP Chief Prabhat Jha. “The plan is to complete the works at all major stretches within next few days.”
Owing to heavy traffic during the day, the KVRIP has been mobilising its workers at night to paint the crosswalks. Work at the Dhobikhola-Maitighar road has already been completed. The KVRIP is currently painting crosswalks at the Maitighar-Tinkune road.
Besides painting crosswalks, the road authority is also installing retroreflective devices (cat’s eye) to help drivers and pedestrians locate the crosswalks and edges of the road during the night .
Cat’s eye reflectors have already been outfitted along the road shoulders, while installation works are underway to mark the crosswalks as well.
