ICC staff protest affects House meet for 2 hrs
The meeting of Constituent Assembly (CA) was affected for two hours on Monday after the staffers of the International Convention Centre padlocked the building. As a result, the CA meeting, originally scheduled for 1pm, could only convene after 3pm. CA members waited outside the building to open the gate.
The ICC staffers have long been demanding the facilities against additional works.
They ended the stir only after the government assured to address their demands. The government has committed to fulfil the demands within three days, the staffers told the media. But they warned of resuming the protest on the fourth day if the government does not keep its promise. Earlier on Friday, the agitating staffers had cut the audio transmission at the media centre as part of their protest. Chalram Poudel, who is coordinating the protest, complained that they had been denied salary despite putting in extra work.
The CA Secretariat has hired about 90 ICC employees on contract basis. While the secretariat staffers enjoy additional facilities which are twice as much as their regular salary, the BICC staffers are deprived of it. The government has been using the centre for CA and parliament meetings.
