UCPN (Maoist) avoids three-party meet
UCPN (Maoist) was absent in the meeting of the three major parties scheduled for Tuesday morning. The meeting concluded inconclusively after the UCPN (Maoist) snub.Ekantipur Report
UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal reached the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar and urged PM Sushil Koirala to invite Madhes-based parties to the meeting.
A meeting including the three major parties and Madhesi alliance is scheduled for 4 pm today after Dahal’s request.
Nepali Congress Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel expressed suspicions over the activities of the alliance led by Maoist as they had announced different protest programmes neglecting the responsibility of drafting the constitution.
"What is the relevance of Constituent Assembly if the new constitution could be promulgated through street protests," leader Poudel questioned.
The main opposition UCPN (M) walked out of the meeting of major political parties over disagreement with Prime Minister Koirala and UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli regarding the constitution drafting process. Since then, the party did not turn up at the meeting of major parties.
Prime Minister and NC President Koirala, senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, Vice President Poudel, General Secretaries Prakashman Singh and Krishna Prasad Sitaula, UML's Chair KP Sharma Oli, senior leader Jhalanath Khanal, Vice-Chairs Bamdev Gautam and Bidya Devi Bhandari were present in the meeting.
