Bhattarai blames new ruling leadership for deadlock
UCPN (Maoist) senior leader Baburam Bhattarai has said the current political deadlock is because of the political leaders who were not directly involved in signing the past accords.Ekantipur Report
At a programme organised in the Capital by Federation of Nepali Journalists, Bhattarai said the current leadership of ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have not understood the spirit of the people’s movement and the Constituent Assembly like the way the leaders directly involved in the accords have.
Hinting towards NC President Sushil Koirala and UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, Bhattarai said, “The new leadership in NC and UML has not understood the spirit of the people’s movement and the Constituent Assembly.” He said that the agenda of the people’s movement was in contrast to the mandate of the second CA election and the problem surfaced after the NC and UML leadership spoke only of the mandate disregarding the spirit of the movement and past accords.
Bhattarai, who also heads the Constitutional Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee (PDCC), said that his party was committed to promulgating a timely statute through CA and claimed that his party would suffer the biggest loss if it was not drafted. "Me and my party Chairman Prachanda will be at the receiving end," he said. He noted that because of the split of the hardline Mohan Baidhya faction, the current organisational structure of the party is favorable to drafting the constitution.
