Doctors at the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences had made the incision on her stomach a few days after her birth as they failed to make an opening on her rectum.

Following the procedure, the girl has to visit the hospital every 10/15 days to get rid of the faeces through the intestinal opening for the past six years. Apart from the surgery and travel expenses, the family has been spending Rs 3,500 each month just on her medicines, the girl’s mother Kamala said.

The family, however, has been caught in a fix after doctors on Thursday advised them to take Nisha to Kanti Children’s Hospital in the Capital.

“The doctors asked us to take her to the Capital immediately as further complications could arise if the intestine protruding out of her stomach gets stuck due to infections,” Kamala said. She, however, said they took the girl back to home as they lack financial means to take her to the Capital.

“We have done all we could and have nowhere to ask for a loan. We can do nothing but curse our fate as it hurts to hear her cry in anguish,” Kamala said, adding that they already sold nine ropanis of inherited land, jewellery, and all their livestock for her treatment in the past six years. Furthermore, of their three children, their son Chhatra Bahadur was born with disabilities. He cannot talk, walk or even eat on his own. Stating that he spent over Rs 1.1 million on the treatment of his children, Nisha’s father Tilak said he is left helpless now. “Though

our son’s future is bleak, we could have saved our daughter from a similar fate if we could get some kind of assistance,” he said.
