Lawmaker Mishra vented his ire on Dr. KC at a meeting of Parliamentary Committee for Women, Children, Senior Citizens and Social Welfare on Sunday. His fury was centered on the stripping of the affiliation to Manmohan Memorial Medical College.
Mishra, an investor of Manmohan College, claimed the college could not get the affiliation from Institute of Medicine (IoM) despite meeting all the required criteria. “An infrastructure built with billions of rupees has become useless due to lack of affiliation,” said Mishra, “But instead of shedding light on this site of the story, the media has been making the mad doctor a hero.”
He termed Dr. KC a mad traitor. “This lunatic is a hero of nation,” said Mishra with resentful tone, “And people like us working in the interests of the nation should be enduring pain?”
He further claimed that there is a growing tendency among youths to go abroad for studies due to lack of affiliation to the medical colleges in country, causing a huge capital flight.
At the meeting, UCPN (Maoist) lawmaker Agni Sapkota narrated his experience of visiting Bir Hospital. “I went to Bir Hospital on Friday. I was appalled by the situation there.”
“And I thought to myself, what else would it take to change the situation that could not be changed even by an armed revolt?” said the leader of former rebel party. “A patient had to reach Naxal just to get an X-ray.”
Similarly, another UML lawmaker Rajendra Pandey said the physicians do not stay longer period in government hospitals. Sharing his experience at a community hospital in Malekhu, Dhading, he said no physician stayed longer than two months in the hospital despite a handsome salary of Rs. 65,000, along with the facility of a flat to live and an assistant.
