The committee issued such directive after holding discussions with Home Minister Bam Dev Gautam in connection with a complaint that alleges police officials of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of swindling money meant for rewarding the informants who helped bust 35 kg of smuggled gold in July.
The parliamentary committee has asked the authorities to carry out a serious investigation regarding the claims of false informants and award the complainants with the incentives as per the law, if proven as the real informant, and take action against the police officials involved in creating fake informants.
“The committee has decided to direct the committee to carry out serious investigations in the incident of creating fake informants and take action against the guilty,” said the committee chairman Janardan Sharma.
Acting on a tip-off, a CIB team on July 10 seized 35 kg of gold from a truck at Koteshwor on July 10. The gold biscuits were being smuggled from Khasa, China into Kathmandu by hiding them inside a false bottom created beside the driver’s seat.
