Sunshine enter quarter-finals
Sunshine College of Bhairahawa and Golden Gate International College (GGIC) of Kathmandu entered the fourth SPA Cup Inter-college National Cricket Tournament on Monday.Binod Pandey & Mohan Budhayer
While GGIC earned a walkover win from Tripura Sundari Campus of Accham, Sunshine edged Far Western University of Kanchanpur by 11 runs. Crucial contributions from four batsmen helped Sunshine pile on a mammoth 173-7 before restricting Far Western for 162-8 in 20 Overs.
After losing opener Nawaratan Saini (18) with 21 runs on the board, Dipak Malla (38) and Niraj Chand (20) kept Far Western in the game with a 48-run stand for the second wicket. Two wickets in the space of three balls then saw Far West reduced to 70-3 in 10.1 overs. Malla, however, added another 37 runs with Anil Thapa (23) to take Far West past triple figures.
Dipendra Yadav and Mayanka Yadav then picked up two wickets in three balls to reduce Far Western to 108-5 in 15.1 overs.
As Sunshine were heading towards a huge victory, Mahesh Sah gave them a real scare with his quick-fire knock. On his way to putting on a 41-run stand with Rajendra Chand (15), Sah scored 34 not out off just 17 balls with three sixes but other batsmen failed to contribute. Yadav duo picked up two wickets each for Sunshine.
Earlier, opener Anurag Sharma made 25 off 18 balls with five boundaries but his dismissal reduced Sunshine to 33-2 in five overs. Mayank Yadav and Antim Thapa lifted Sunshine with a 73-run stand. Thapa departed after smashing 40 off 26 ball with four sixes and two boundaries. Yadav, however, stuck to the crease and contributed a match-high 45 off 35 with five fours and a six.
Sabin Shakya chipped in 23 off 12 with three fours and a six late in the innings giving Sunshine a challenging total. Sah was also the key performer with the ball for Far West picking up 3-31. Mayank Yadav was adjudged the man-of-the-match.
