Regmi urges parties for broader consensus
Former Chairman of Interim Council of Ministers Khilraj Regmi on Saturday urged the party leaders to act seriously to deliver a new constitution on the basis of broader consensus. He holds that those parties engaged in the 2006 movement cannot shy away from their responsibility of bringing a new constitution respecting people's mandate. He also expressed regret over parties' failure to meet the self-imposed January 22 deadline of the constitution promulgation.
He further added that new constitution will ensure the rights and space to all the parties. "It is a historic and a rare opportunity for the parties to bring out a new constitution from the CA," he said, adding that new constitution will ensure the rights of citizens.
"I appeal the party leaders to deliver a new constitution as soon as possible as per the aspirations and expectation of the people," Regmi said. He also expressed dissatisfaction over the tussle between the ruling and opposition parties in the constitution drafting process.
