Birat Gold Cup Football Tournament has come up with a unique plan to offer something for everyone, even the teams that crash out of the first round are assured of cash prizes.Binod Bhandari
According to the President of organising committee, Rajendra Raut, all 10 teams will get their share of cash reward in the tournament which begins here from Thursday. “We have allocated prize money for all teams even those who bow out of the first round. The prize money goes up as the teams progress,” said Raut.
Manang Marshyangdi Club, Nepal Police Club, Tribhuvan Army, Armed Police Force, Three Star, Morang FC, Jhapa XI, Lumbini FC, Gorge Telegraph of Kolkata and United Sikkim FC will vie for the championship that offers top prize of Rs 5,01,000. The runners-up will walk away with Rs 3,01,000.
The semi-finalists will earn Rs 1,00,000 and the quarter-finalists will receive Rs 75,000. Teams failing to get past first round will walk away Rs 30,000 each.
There are also awards for the best goalkeeper, midfielder, defender, highest scorer, coach and manager as well as man-of-the match. The best player of the tournament will receive a motorcycle. The estimated budget of the event is Rs 7.7 million.
