APF complete Double League hat-trick
Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club completed a hat-trick of the Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Women’s Double League Volleyball Tournament after rallying from a set down to beat New Diamond AcademyAPF – who were into their fourth appearance out of 10 editions of the tournament – became the second team to complete a hat-trick of the tournament following the feat of Gyanu Baba Academy of Pokhara. The title triumph made APF richer by Rs 255,000, while runners-up New Diamond got Rs 125,000.
APF finished unbeaten with 40 points from 14 matches – three ahead of New Diamond. Nepal Police Club (NPC) finished third with 28 points and Western Region ended up fourth with 27.
New Diamond needed an outright win to get the better of APF on points and they got their title ambitions on track winning the first set 25-16. APF, however, surged ahead winning the next two sets 25-17, 25-19. New Diamond bounced back to level the game on 2-2 after winning the fourth set 25-17 but in the title deciding set, APF cruised to 15-8 victory.
APF skipper Nima Shrestha was adjudged the woman of the final. In the battle for third place, NPC cruised to a straight sets victory of 24-22, 25-18, 25-19 over Western Region. Chandeshwori overcame Dhorpatan Sports Club 25-14, 25-19, 25-15 to finish sixth. Pratibha Mali of New Diamond was adjudged the best player of the tournament, while Reshma Bhandari was named the player of the series. Kopila Upreti of NPC won the player of the year honour with Manisha Chaudhary of Western taking emerging player’s trophy. The four players were rewarded with a TVS scooter.
Third-placed NPC got Rs 65,000, Western Region took Rs 35,000, while Tribhuvan Army Club finished fourth to take Rs 25,000 and Chandeshwori got Rs 15,000. Saraswoti Chaudhary (blocker), Nima Shrestha (spiker), Binita Budhathoki (server) and Kapil Kishor Shrestha (coach) of APF won the category award along with Kripa Adhikari (setter) of New Diamond and Rupesh Bista (manager) of NPC. All got Rs 5,000 apiece.
