UML stresses on bringing oppn on board
The standing committee meeting of the CPN-UML on Sunday reiterated that the opposition parties should be brought on board the constitution writing process.In the meeting held at the party office at Madan Nagar, Balkhu here, the committee members spoke on the need of continuing the efforts towards bringing the UCPN (Maoist) and the Madhesi Front to consensus and writing the new constitution based on consensus as soon as possible for respecting the people's mandate, Vice Chairwoman of the party Ashta Laxmi Shakya said.
She said most of the committee members who spoke in the meeting suggested that the party should become flexible to bring the UCPN (Maoist) and the Front to consensus and forge agreement on the issue of constitution writing by managing the national politics.
The meeting concluded that it was not right on the part of the agitating side including the UCPN (Maoist) to move ahead by creating anarchy and waging a movement in the country as the people's aspiration was for timely constitution.
Although the standing committee was scheduled to hold discussions today on the issue of allocation of the party portfolio, it could not take up the issue as discussions were on, on issues of national politics.
The next meeting of the standing committee will discuss the allocation of party portfolios, the party secretary Prithvi Subba Gurung said. The UML standing committee will next meet on February 15.
