UCPN (Maoist) Secretary Barshaman Pun has made it clear that his party is ready to hold talks based on the agreements forged on January 19.
“Consensus can be forged from the agendas agreed on January 19,” he said, “First it should be ensured that the ongoing majority process is scrapped and commitment is made to draft the constitution based on past agreements.”
The UCPN (M) leader claimed that both the ruling and opposition parties should find a face-saving compromise as it is hard for the ruling parties to scrap the already-initiated majority process and the opposition alliance is having problems to lead the agitation to its final stage.
“One of the leaders from the opposition alliance, Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar, had tabled a middle-path proposal on January 19. He had proposed issuing the new constitution by forming a federal commission to resolve the federalism debate later. We did not accept the proposal then,” said Pun.
