Nepal International Trade Fair opens
The fourth Nepal International Trade Fair threw open its doors on Thursday with 340 domestic and foreign stalls vying to lure visitors with their displays of varied products.products, handicrafts, building and construction materials and pharmaceuticals to decorative items, plastic products, food and beverages.
Organized by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) at Bhrikuti Mandap Exhibition Hall, the fair aims to promote Nepal’s trade in the global arena and enhance growth of exportable goods, particularly those listed in the Nepal Trade Integration Strategy (NTIS). Minister for Commerce and Supplies Sunil Bahadur Thapa inaugurated the expo.
Inaugurating the fair, Thapa said that the country had not been able to benefit much despite having a wide range of exportable items due to lack of promotion and branding. “From herbal products to tea, coffee and honey, we have lots of products that can much foreign currency,” he said. “However, we are not getting the optimal advantage from them.”
He added that the expo would help producers to market their goods and services. Thapa said that the government had been partnering with the private sector to promote Nepal’s products. Minister Thapa also urged international traders to open their door wider to Nepali products.
Similarly, Keshav Raj Pandey, chairman of the Trade Fair Committee at the FNCCI, said that the expo would help to identify and enhance Nepali products through a one-stop platform. The event has brought together national and international buyers and sellers.
“Local entrepreneurs will have an excellent opportunity to learn from the international exhibitors here,” he said.
FNCCI has chosen Bangladesh as the country partner for this year’s event. It has 92 stalls exhibiting its products and services at the international pavilion. There are 28 stalls from India and 22 from Pakistan.
