Acid attack victims to sit for SLC exams
The Office of the Controller of Examinations, Sanothimi, has decided to make arrangements for Basantapur acid attack victims to sit for their SLC exams with the help of assistants.Ekantipur Report
Sangita Magar, 16, from Ramechhap and Sima Basnet, 15, from Rautahat were attacked with acid by an unidentified person at a tuition center in Basantapur, Kathmandu on February 22.
Earlier on Friday, the Cabinet had instructed the Ministry of Education to make necessary arrangements for the victims to take their SLC exam.
Magar has been receiving treatment at Sinamangal-based Medical College and Basnet has been admitted to Bir Hospital.
Likewise, the Exam Controller’s Office has made provision for allowing visually impaired students to take their SLC exams by keeping assistants studying in grade 9.
Prior to this, only those students studying in class 8 were allowed to write exams for SLC aspirants, Examination Controller Bishnu Dware said.
This year’s SLC examination has been scheduled for March 19-30. A total of 426,214 students will take the examination under regular category, while there are 145,183 students under exempted category. Altogether, there are 1,862 examination centers across the country. The exam will begin at 8 am and end at 11 am.
