Sixteen-year-old girl ‘gang-raped’ in Saptari
A 16-year-old girl has allegedly been gang-raped in Rajbiraj, the district headquarters of Saptari. The incident that took place on March 27 came to light only on Thursday. The victim’s family said in a press meet that a group of “seven people” gang-raped her while she was returning home after attending the School Leaving Certificate examination. They said the accused took the girl to a building and committed the crime.
“My sister was in affair with Shanbhu Sah of Rajbiraj-3 but they broke up a few months ago. He then started blackmailing her saying that he had a video record of their physical relation and that he would make public the video if she refused to meet him,” the victim’s brother said, adding when she met him on that day, he took her to a house and committed the crime. He claimed that one of the rapists also recorded a video of the crime.
The victim’s relatives said they found the girl bleeding and took her to Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital for treatment. They said though they handed over two suspects—Jitendra Khanga and Dipak Yadav—to police, the authorities concerned refused to register a complaint. Deputy Superintendent of Police Narayan Prasad Chimoriya, however, said they asked the victim’s family members to lodge complaint against four suspects as told by the girl to Women’s Cell earlier. “We just asked them not to drag innocent people to the case,” he said, adding that no one has been arrested in connection with the incident yet.
