Gaur protests called-off

Apr 8, 2015-

The protests at Gaur led by the local chapter of the Chamber of Commerce of Industry have been called off effective from Tuesday night. The Chamber withdrew all programmes of protest following an agreement with the local administration at midnight.

Rautahat Chamber of Commerce of Industry Chairman Kanta Mani Jaiswal informed about the withdrawal of all protest programmes. “We have called off the protests after we reached to an agreement with the administration regarding our demands”

The protests have been called off after the administration agreed to meet the demands of the agitators that included martyr status for a local who died during the protest, compensation for his family and the reversal of the decision to extend administrative services to Chandranigahpur. The demonstrators had resorted to violent protests over Ram Aashish Thakur’s death on Friday evening after a police van hit him.

The agitation that started against government decision to establish branches of District Land Revenue Office and Survey Office in the neighbouring Chandranigahapur, ended after 23 days after the agreement was signed.

Officials of the Chamber of Commerce of Industry, DIG of Hetauda Police, leaders of the civil society, Federation of Nepali Journalists among others were present in yesterday’s meeting that took place at District Administration Office.

Chief District Administrator Madan Bhujel informed that the meeting was positive and the protest programmes have been withdrawn.
