Construction of causeways comes as a relief for villagers
Construction of two causeways at the initiative of people from Laxmi has relieved the locals of the 3 VDCs of having to go through the hassle of crossing the border into India.Sankhar Acharya
Some eight thousand people living in the aformentioned three VDCs have directly benefited from the construction of the causeways. They said they now feel relieved that they do not have to cross the border into India to reach the headquarters of their own district now.
The locals said that they often fell victim to unnecessary troubles from the Indian Security Forces while using the Indian roadway to reach other VDCs in their own district.
Thanks to the initiative of Gramin Hatbazar Sadak Bebasthapan Samiti (GHSBS), the two causeways stretching 10 and eight meters in length with two hume pipes beneath them have been constructed. Rs 2.28 million was spent to construct the causeways in collaboration with Poverty Alleviation Fund, Village Development Committee, and District Development Committee. Even locals made generous contributions for the construction of the causeways.
Following the construction of the two causeways, locals have been able to sell their vegetable produce at the nearby Bhishwa bazaar (a popular marketplace) while school-going children are finding it easy to reach their schools which are also located in Bhishwa.
“However, the most satisfying thing is that we no longer have to cross the border into India to reach other places in our district,” said a local.
